I need help studying the SAT in about little less than a month?
I have about 28 days left till the next SAT. I am not taking classes and I need to how to study good from this day on. I am a senior and got a 1510 first time. I really need to know critical reading, because I got the lowest on that.

Here are a few tips for Critical Reading:
- Practice by reading a lot! Try Time Magazine or The New York Times for some information heavy articles. This is not like reading for leisure. Think about what the main idea of the article is, the author’s viewpoint, and their arguments supporting their viewpoint. (This can also help you build vocabulary).
- When you read the passage, don’t memorize! Skim to get the main idea of the passage. Write this down in 5 words or less. Jot down VERY short notes throughout the passage to help you remember what is going on.
- Go to the questions and DON’T read the answer choice at first. Just read the question and try to answer it in your own words. (The SAT tries to confuse students by putting in a ton of info into the answer choices). If the question asks about a certain part of the passage, go there and get what you need to answer the question.
- Now look at the answer choices and see what matches what you came up with. Eliminate any bad answer choices til you can get to one that you think is best. NOTE: If you can eliminate at least one answer choice, always guess! If you can’t eliminate any, then do NOT guess randomly.

The national average score on the SAT is 1500 with a 500 in each section. Good job so far.
For critical reading, learn basic strategies on how to answer the questions. Learn reading strategies. What I do is I read the introduction and conclusion paragraphs first. Then I go back and read the first and last sentences in each paragraph. Then I glance at the questions and see if I can answer some main idea questions. After that, I go back and read the body paragraphs in more detail. Find a reading strategy that works for you so that you won’t spend all of your time reading the passages.
The shorter the passages are, the harder the questions will be, generally speaking.
For dual passages, read the first passage first and answer questions that pertain to the first only. Then read the second passage and answer questions that pertain to the second only. Then answer the questions about both.
There are 4 types of questions for CR: retrieval (on line 12, it says blah, what does blah mean?), author’s purpose, author’s tone (look for adjectives and verbs), and vocab.
For practice, do a lot of practice tests and read magazines and newspapers. The best practice is to read a lot and improve your vocabulary because it will help in 2 of the 3 sections on the test.
For writing, practice writing and read a lot.
For math, do lots of practice tests and time yourself.
Remember to relax because the SAT is only one part of the application. Make sure the other parts are strong too, such as your GPA, courseload, extraccuriculars, teacher’s letters and admissions essay.
Good luck! I have to take the SAT in less than a month too!
